Recent years have seen great improvements in contact lens design. With the ever increasing new contact lens materials we are improving the fit and comfort of the contact lenses. With the advent of daily disposable, extended wear and progressive contact lenses, there is now a lens to suit almost every wearer whether it is disposable, traditional or a specially designed bespoke lens.

The first step is to find out about the type of lense that may be suitable for you. This depends on many factors including:

  • Your prescription
  • How often you want to wear your lenses
  • Your occupation and work environment
  • Your tear film and eye sensitivity

You need to have a full eye examination to determine your prescription and the general health of your eyes, followed by a specific contact lense fitting. During the fitting, diagnostic contact lenses are worn to check your suitability for contact lense wear. Further checks of your eyes and tear film help to assess the most suitable types of lens for your personal needs.

At our practice you are not committed to purchase lenses at your initial visit - if you decided lenses are not for you, or are advised that you are unsuitable you will simply pay for your eye examination and the initial fitting fee. with many types of lens you can try for a month with no obligation - just let us know if you don't want to continue!

The cost of your lenses depends on which type fits your lifestyle. Whether you want to wear your lenses every day or just for sports, we have the lens for you. Most people chose either Daily Disposable (especially for part time wear including sports and going out) or Monthly Disposable if you want to wear lenses most days.

As independent practitioners, we can source our lenses from all manufacturers and our prices are comparable with the supermarkets and internet suppliers. You choose whether you want to buy lenses only or with full professional cover.

Clear vision without spectacles or daytime contact lens wear!

What is Ortho K?

Ortho K is a vision correction therapy that brings a modern approach to a technique known as orthokeratology. Ortho K lenses are manufactured from special highly oxygen permeable material. When worn during the night these lenses apply a controlled shape to the cornea (the 'window' at the front of the eye), eliminating your short sightedness. This effect stays strong enough for you to function the entire day without spectacles or contact lenses.

So, no more restrictions on how long you wear your contact lenses, no more irritation in smoky environments or at the end of a long day in front of a computer terminal, no messing about with lenses at the gym or swimming pool.

Who can benefit from Ortho K?

Ortho K is ideal for low-mid short sighted people. Ortho K utilises the tried and tested DreamLite lens design that has been available in Europe since 2002 and currently boasts thousands of happy patients. Ortho K is available to patients with the following degrees of short sightedness:

  • A spherical spectacle prescription of -0.75D up to -4.50D
  • Astigmatism of up to -1.50D

What are the benefits of Ortho K?

It is ideal for people who:

  • Want clear natural vision all day - every day.
  • Find soft contact lenses do not always feel comfortable enough to meet the demands their lifestyle places on their eyes.
  • Are involved in recreational and sports activities where contact lenses are not always ideal ( swimming, football, rugby)
  • Need very easy adaptation, with only overnight lens wear required.
  • Want a comfortable, semi-permanent alternative for the correction of short sightedness.
  • Want a safe and reversible vision correction therapy without surgery.

How do I try Ortho K?

Simply book an appointment for a suitability assessment. If your prescription is within the required limits and your eyes appear suitable, your eyes will be analysed on a corneal topographer (eye mapping instrument) and from the data gathered, lenses can be ordered.

You will be taught insertion and removal and wear the lenses for the first night with a check up the following morning with the lenses still in. The lenses are rechecked for fit and removed. The immediate visual improvement is then assessed.

You will then be assessed at regular intervals during the adaptation period so your progress can be monitored and modifications made to the lenses if required. The final lenses become what are termed 'retainer' lenses and are replaced every 6 months to maintain optimum correction and comfort.

Once the adaptation is complete and your wearing schedule for maintainance of clear vision decided, you will need only 6 monthly assessments.
