Contact Lenses
At elizabeth pope opticians we offer a range of contact lenses to suit most needs, using the most up to date materials on the market. The type of lens that is best for you will depend upon several factors, including your prescription and how often you want to wear your lenses.
If you are new to contact lenses, following a sight test, we will take you through our fitting procedure to ensure that you are happy with handling your lenses before taking them away for a trial.
Lens Types
Daily Disposable
These are soft lenses designed to be worn once then thrown away. These offer the ultimate in convenience as no cleaning is required. These are particularly suited to people who wish to only wear lenses occasionally, such as for sports, or for those who like to have a fresh pair of lenses every day.
2 Weekly/Monthly Disposable
As the name suggests, these are replaced either every 2 weeks or every month. They need to be cleaned after each wear and stored in an appropriate solution. These are often more economical if worn every day, and offer a larger power range to correct a wider variety of prescriptions than daily disposables.
Toric Lenses
These are designed to correct astigmatism as well as long and short sightedness.
Multifocal Lenses
These are designed for people who need different prescriptions for near and far. They are available as daily, 2 weekly and monthly disposables.
Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP)
These are less flexible than soft lenses and are fitted closely to the shape of your eye. They are re-usable and usually replaced every 6-12 months.
Myopia Control/MiSight
These are dual focus contact lenses which have been scientifically proven to slow myopia progression by up to 59% over two years.
As soft daily disposable lenses, they are comfortable to wear and suitable for children from eight years and up.
They enable clear vision while doing schoolwork, playing ourdoors or watching TV, while at the same time slowing the progression of myopia and supporting the long term heath of your child's eyes.
For more information follow the link to the Cooper Vision MiSight website below.
Orthokeratology (Ortho-K)
These are rigid gas permeable lenses which correct your vision while you sleep, by gently reshaping the curvature of the eye. Simply remove the lenses upon waking and enjoy a clear, natural vision throughout the day.
Precise measurements of your corneal curvature are taken and a tailor made gas permeable lens is created. This lens is worn overnight, during which time it gently reshapes the curvature of the eye, thereby correcting the myopia. The lens is removed in the morning, leaving you with clear vision for the rest of the day, without the need for glasses or contact lenses. Following a sight test and initial assessment, a minimum of 4 or 5 further appointments are needed to ensure that the desired effect is being achieved. Check -ups are then at 6 monthly intervals.
Who is this suitable for?
This treatment is completely reversible, unlike laser surgery and is suitable for prescriptions of -0.75 to -5.00D and astigmatism up to -2.50D. It is ideal for:
- those who want clear vision all day without the need for specs or lenses
- those who have considered laser surgery but are concerned with the associated risks
- those who are involved in sports but find contact lenses and glasses restrictive
- those who wear soft contact lenses but suffer from discomfort or dry, scratchy eyes.
They are also suitable for children and can be used as an effective myopia control treatment.
